Russian Through Theater Credit Hours: 3 Despite being relatively new compared to the rest of Europe, Russian theater occupies a special place in the rest of the world. The beginning of the 20th century marked the birth of Russian theater which served as the foundation for theater around the world as we know it now. During this period Anton Chekov wrote seminal plays while the fathers of modern drama Konstantin Stanislavsky and Vsevolod Meyerhold developed new methods of directing and acting. These plays continue to be a key component of any theater’s repertoire, and these theater schools continue to influence contemporary acting. In this course, we will briefly look into the history of Russian theater, acting traditions, and produce a play that the students will pick and later adapt to stage.
