Andreas Dresen German Film Festival

One focus of the conference will be German Film Studies and in order to enhance the program and strengthen this specific aspect we have invited distinguished German filmmaker Andreas Dresen to come to Athens. Dresen will be here March 26-30, 2008, and in collaboration with Brigitta Hangartner, director of Athens’ art house movie theater Ciné, a four-day German film festival, the Andreas Dresen Deutsche Filmtage, will take place at Ciné during the time of his visit. Ciné will show four films directed by Dresen – Grill Point, The Policewomen, Night Shapes, and Summer in Berlin – and four films that he selected as influential or otherwise significant for his work – Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s The Marriage of Maria Braun, Konrad Wolf’s Solo Sunny, Heiner Carow’s The Legend of Paul and Paula, and Günter Reisch’s Anton the Magician. All films will be in German with English subtitles and at one point or another will be introduced by Andreas Dresen himself. For the complete schedule click here.
