Keith Langston's research interests involve two main areas: the phonology and morphology of the South Slavic languages and sociolinguistics, with a focus on questions of language and identity in the former Yugoslavia. He is the author of Cakavian prosody: The accentual patterns of the cakavian dialects of Croatian (2006) and of a number of articles in journals such as Balkanistica, Filologija, Hrvatski dijalektoloski zbornik, International Politics, Journal of Slavic Linguistics, and Die Welt der Slaven . He has been the recipient of several grants for study and research in Eastern Europe, including an IREX/NEH grant to conduct field work and archival research in Croatia.
He is a vice president of the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and Eastern European Languages and an external research fellow of the Institut za hrvatski jezik i jezikoslovlje.
Prof. Langston is the coordinator of the Russian language program. He is actively involved in the development of web-based instructional materials for the beginning and intermediate Russian courses, and he was chosen to participate in the University of Georgia Instructional Technology Leadership Program for the 2000-2001 academic year. In addition to teaching Russian language at all levels and an Honors course on culture and national identity in the Balkans, he is also on the faculty of the Linguistics Program, where he teaches courses in theoretical and historical linguistics. For the past two years he has participated in the UGA Croatia Maymester Study Abroad program.
