German American Chamber of Commerce

UGA Department of Germanic & Slavic Languages

Summer Internship Program

In 2006, the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern U.S. and the Department of Germanic & Slavic Languages at the University of Georgia established an official partnership, consisting of a program for two summer internships at the GACC for University of Georgia German majors and minors. This program, jointly sponsored by the two institutions, will afford University of Georgia students the opportunity to utilize their German language skills in a genuine business setting and to familiarize themselves with the German-American professional community in and around Atlanta.

The GACC South in Atlanta is the official representative of German industry and trade in the southern United States and has been supporting economic relations between the United States and Germany for more than 25 years.

This year, the GACC South is offering two summer internship positions in its Marketing & Consulting and Membership & Events departments. Interns become an integral part of a GACC team responsible for assisting U.S. members, new membership recruiting, and/or helping our German business clients to enter the U.S. market successfully.

The Summer Internship Program is an excellent opportunity for students interested in:

  • Practical Use of German
  • International Business
  • Marketing
  • Event Planning
  • Relationship Management
  • German-American Business Culture

The standard duration of the internship is 2-3 months.

Interns, selected on a competitive basis, will receive compensation from the GACC South in accordance with its current practice for remunerating interns as well as a $500 KICCS grant (Kicklighter Chamber of Commerce Scholarship) from the Department of Germanic & Slavic Languages.

The program is open to University of Georgia German majors and minors who have completed at least four semesters of German (or the equivalent) at the college level and are in good academic standing. All candidates must submit an official transcript, one letter of recommendation, an application form, and a brief statement of purpose. In addition, applicants are asked to participate in a short interview.
